David Lee Whipkey
David Lee Whipkey, 34, of Fairview, W.Va., lost a long battle with mental illness on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
David was born March 3, 1989. He is survived by his son, Weston; mother, Tenna Whipkey, of Fanning Springs, Fla.; father, Larry Whipkey, and stepmother, Jeanie Whipkey, of Fairview, W.Va.; grandfather, Charles Johnson, of Fanning Springs, Fla.; fiancee, Sarah Ammons; sister, Trish Whipkey (Travis Morris), of Morgantown, W.Va.; brother, Jason (Lori) Whipkey, of Mount Morris; two nieces, Audrey and Sophia; and four nephews, Jayce, Isaac, Cameron and Noah.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Patricia Johnson and Faye Whipkey.
David worked in the coal industry, both surface and underground.
Mechanically inclined, he had many talents and was always willing to help when needed. He loved to tinker.
David enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, the outdoors and 4-wheeling.
David gave the gift of life by choosing to be an organ and tissue donor. You can honor him by registering as an organ donor at www.core.org.

David loved family gatherings. A celebration of his life is planned from 3 to 7 p.m., or later, for June 9, 2023, at Mason-Dixon Park, Dunkard Pavilion.
