Franklin R. VanVoorhis
Franklin R. “Rich” VanVoorhis, 87 of Scenery Hill, PA (Ellsworth) passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023 in Dunlevy Manor.
He was born January 28, 1936 in Brownsville, a son of the late Franklin and Myrtle Hodge VanVoorhis.
Rich was a 1955 graduate of Ellsworth High School and the West Virginia Community College where he studied culinary arts.
Mr. VanVoorhis was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1955 to 1959.
He was a member of the Boilermakers Local #154 Iron Ship Makers working as a welder retiring after many years of service. He was also a former Police Officer in Oil City and a self-employed farmer.
Rich was a member of Sunset Lodge #237, 32 Degree Consistory Valley of Pittsburgh, Syria Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Hiram Riders, and the Centerville American Legion Post #705.
Known for being a “Jack of All Trades”, Rich also enjoyed motorcycling, traveling, dancing, having coffee at Bentleyville McDonalds with the guys, and spending time with his dog Buster.
Surviving is a daughter, Kelly Perks of Reno, NV; three stepchildren Linda Pinchok (Dan) of Washington, Albert Blackburn of Akron, Ohio, and Rebecca Gildea (Rich) of Uniontown; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Deceased are his wife Saundra T. VanVoorhis who died October 30, 2020 and a twin brother who died in infancy.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Greenlee’s Bentleyville Funeral Home, 619 Main St. Bentleyville, PA where funeral services will be held Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 10 a.m.. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded graveside by the Centerville American Legion Post #705.
