Kenneth A. Pickering

Kenneth A. “Ken” Pickering, a full-time resident in the Traverse City, Michigan area since 1996, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at the age of 97.

Ken and his wife, Alice Spriggs Pickering, grew up in Washington, Pennsylvania.

During his senior year of High School, he left in early 1944, as a volunteer for the US Army Air Corps, for service in WWII, as an Aviation Cadet pilot trainee.

After discharge in late 1945, he took advantage of the GI Bill to secure a college education, which he often said, “changed forever my life and those of my children and grandchildren”.

Ken graduated from Penn State in 1949 with a BSME degree

Ken was preceded in death by his dear wife, Alice in 2004.

He is survived by a daughter, Linda, (Joseph) Lupi; a son, Mark (Pamala) Pickering; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In accordance with his wishes, Ken will be laid to rest at The Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Mich., at a later date.

In keeping with Ken’s wishes, it is requested that memorial donations be made to Munson Healthcare Foundation in Traverse City, Michigan or the Freeman Wilner Foundation in Royal Oak, Michigan.
