Anthony R. Kushon, 75, of Carmichaels, died Thursday June 15, 2023, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.

Anthony was born September 27, 1947, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Donald J. and Anna Sorgiovanni Kushon.

On February 14, 1984, he married Karen Flack Kushon, who survives.

Also surviving are two children, Dr. Stuart Kushon (Debra) of Lake Forest, Calif., and Melissa McMasters (Phil) of Gainesville, Fla.; two granddaughters, Layla and Dalia Kushon; and a brother, Dr. Donald Kushon (Lisa Egle) of Philadelphia.

A sister, Carla Andrus, is deceased.

Anthony graduated from Carmichaels Area High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh with a triple major in Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics and Chemistry. He worked for 38 years with PPG Industries, mostly in the Advanced Research Division as a polymer chemist, and then as technical support before retirement.

Anthony was a founder and past president of the Society of Ornamental Turners. He studied, admired, and created beautiful artistic works in the three-dimensional form. Faberge eggs, rose engines, rare woods turned and polished into artistic works, coining, low relief sculpture, molding and machining were a few of his interests. One of his proudest creations was a modern design of a geometric chuck with the ability to create elliptical patterns, which he fabricated, used, shared, wrote and gave lectures about.

He was a consummate handyman, creator, loving husband and father, protector, and polymath.

Funeral arrangements are private and entrusted to the Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA 15320. 724-966-5100.
