Richard H. Walther
Richard H. Walther, 80, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, with his wife by his side.
He was born June 12, 1943, to Florence and Frank Walther.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Catherine and Frank.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Celia “Sam”; son, Joe; daughter, Candi; and grandchildren: Frank, Cassandra, Tia and Joseph.
Rick graduated from Brentwood High School and went on to spend four years in the US Air Force, with one year in Thailand, as support for Vietnam.
He had a 35+ year career as a tool and die maker for the Fisher Body Division of General Motors, in West Mifflin.
He enjoyed playing sports for both the fun and the competition: bowling (scored a perfect 300 once), golf, horseshoes, baseball, shooting pool and skiing. He also did some hunting and fishing over the years.
Family vacations were camping at Pymatuning Lake and later years were spent with friends and family at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland.
He and Sam traveled to most of the National Parks and wintered in Clearwater, Florida.
Rick appreciated a cold beer at local taverns and a good cigar.
Although strong willed and stubborn at times, he was generous, loyal and brave to the very end. He had a big heart that he shared with his friends and family. He will be dearly missed.
In typical Rick fashion, there will be little pomp or circumstance. A visitation is planned at Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317, from 2 to 4 p.m., with a prayer at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 25th.
In lieu of gifts, please buy yourself a drink and raise a glass to Rick for a life well lived.
