Dorothy Lynch McMurray slept peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, June 18, 2023, after faithfully serving Him with her quiet faith for over 103 years.

Dorothy was born June 6, 1920, in Burgettstown, a daughter of Thomas and Daisy Lynch.

She was a graduate of Union High School and Geneva College and was an elementary school teacher in the Peters Township School District for over 30 years.

During World War II, she served in the WAVES and was stationed in San Francisco.

She was a member of Peters Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church for 67 years, served as a deacon and volunteered at many activities. She was also a charter member and 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

During her earlier years, she participated in the manual census of Peters Township, record keeping for the membership drive of the Peters Township Ambulance Service, and traveled with the Retired Teachers Association.

She was a prolific reader and frequent patron of the Peters Township Library. She also enjoyed mowing her grass and maintaining her flowers, feeding the hummingbirds, crosstitching, reading her Bible, word puzzles, traveling and going out to eat with her many friends.

She was also independent, drove until the age of 96, was always prompt with her thank you letters, and took pride in her impeccable hand- writing and appearance.

Her last seven years were spent at Southminster Place, where she made new friends, participated in many activities, helped to on-board and mentor new residents, played bingo, attended church services, and loved to talk about current events.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Lynch; and sister, Alice Belle Lynch.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Thomas (Sandy) of McMurray; grandsons, Michael (Marianna) of Charlottesville, Va., Matthew (Ka-Lai) of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Melissa (Nicholas) of McMurray; three great-grandchildren, Chloe, Aidan and William McMurray; sister-in-law, Kathy Lynch; niece Holly Worboys (Jeff); and nephews, Ken and Chris Lynch.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Peters Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or the Peters Township Library History Room.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 30, in the Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray. A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, in Peters Creek Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 250 Brookwood Road, Venetia, with Pastor Doug Brandt officiating. Inurnment will be private and at Fairview Cemetery, Burgettstown.
