William Dennis Lutz
William “Bill” Dennis Lutz, of Washington, died suddenly Sunday, February 19, 2023, after vacationing in Florida with his siblings. He was born October 29, 1942, in Canonsburg Hospital, to the late Merlin and Dorothy Lutz.
He is survived by his children, Matthew Lutz (Carrie) of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., Hayden Lutz (Erin) of Wexford, Nathan Lutz (Jill) of Bethel Park; seven grandchildren; his sister, Barbara Geis, and his brother, Michael Lutz both of Columbus, Ohio; life-long friend, Patricia Lutz of Washington; and many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Bill was a 1960 graduate of Bethel Park High School. He went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Business from Duquesne University in just three years and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of West Virginia.
Bill was a self-taught musician and accomplished player of the guitar, piano and organ and a member of the choir. He enjoyed farming, all genres of music, golfing, Pittsburgh sports, traveling and good food. Bill was always curious, a life-long learner, and enjoyed reading about history, science and nature. He was usually the smartest guy in the room.
His professional life saw him own multiple business ventures and hold a myriad of positions including long-haul truck driver, heavy equipment operator, farmer, school bus driver, house flipper, director of operations and estimator at Pennsylvania Drilling Co., restaurant owner, maintenance technician and property manager. He had a CDL Class A license with tanker and Hazmat endorsement.
He was a good teacher, surprisingly good dancer, remarkably slow eater and known for his kindness and generosity. Mostly though, he will be remembered as a really good dad and really good friend.
Friends and family are welcome to pay their respects from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 9, in Paul Henney Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 5570 Library Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102. The memorial service will be a private ceremony with only family members present.
