Marion James Wade
Marion James Wade, 94, of Mount Morris, died in his home Thursday, March 2, 2023. He was born in his home on Little Shannon Run Road April 25, 1928, a son of the late Cassius Wade and Mary Jeffries Wade. His 90th birthday was celebrated in the house where he was born with friends and family.
He had a wonderful childhood and attended a one-room schoolhouse. He always liked to say that he hoed a row of corn from here to Texas. He later played on the Little Shannon Softball team in the 1940s.
In May of 1951, he married his sweetheart, Sherlene Pyle. They raised 300 chickens and sold to local stores. Their life together was quite the adventure. They were married 60 years until her passing in 2011.
Marion was drafted to the Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany, and his duty included driving large trucks. Part of who he was, was to have a strong love of his country. He was a member of the Mt. Morris American Legion for 48 continuous years.
When his health was good he faithfully attended Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle Church.
He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in 1991. While at PennDOT he was a heavy equipment operator.
Marion is survived by his daughter, Bridget Montgomery and friend Tom Patton; one grandson, Benjamin Wade Montgomery of Mt. Morris; a nephew, Jim Fox and wife Phyllis of Celina, Ohio; a great-nephew, David Fox and wife Keeta of Louisville, Ky.; and his caregiver, Ellen Campbell.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his older sister, Ruth Fox.
There will be visitation held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 6, in the Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc., 324 Mt. Morris Road, P.O. Box 478, Mt. Morris, PA 15349, Daryl L. Throckmorton, director, where additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Tuesday, March 7, with Pastor Joseph Adams and Pastor Rich Schimansky officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mt. Morris, PA 15349, where graveside military rites will be accorded by the James T. Maxon American Legion Post #992 as well as representatives of the U.S. Army.
