William M. Bogar Sr.
William M. “Bill” Bogar Sr., 90, of Avella, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, in his home.
He was born May 14, 1932, in Avella, a son of the late William M. Bogar and Elsie Francesio Bogar Suvada.
Bill was a 1950 graduate of Avella High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1955.
He was a lifelong employee of Alex E. Paris Contracting Co. Inc. of Atlasburg, “retiring” from his position of general superintendent when he was 73, even though he would still show up for work every day, until his passing.
He spent his entire life in Avella. He was a member of St. Michael Church (St. Isidore the Farmer Parish), Bert C. Siders American Legion Post 643, Polar Star Mutual Benefit Society and the Avella Athletic Inc., all of Avella.
On the rare occasion that Bill wasn’t working, he enjoyed watching Pitt basketball, Penn State football and Steelers football. He was a loyal person, who loved his family and friends.
On November 29, 1969, in St. Michael Church, he married Donna Lee Marosi, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 53 years, are his two sons, William M. Bogar Jr. and Todd J. Bogar, both of Avella; his brother, Norman (Ruthanne) Bogar of Baldwin, Md.; nieces, Erika Bogar-King (Rogers), and Adrienne (Greg) Schmitt; and great-nieces, Emily and Kate; and great nephews, Ben and Miller.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, is his stepfather, Andrew Suvada Jr.
Friends and family will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, in St. Michael Church, 97 Highland Avenue, Avella, with the Rev. Harry Bielewicz officiating.
Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Avella, where full military rites will be accorded graveside by the Bert C. Siders American Legion Post 643 of Avella.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Avella Athletics Inc. or a local charity of one’s choice.
