Hilda Jane Brown Lewis

Hilda Jane Brown Lewis, formerly of Donora, left her earthly life behind Wednesday, March 15, 2023, after a brief illness, to join her husband, parents, sister and brothers. She was born May 13 1932, in Donora, the youngest child of the late Lucretia Wilder Brown and Peter Brown Sr.

She was a graduate of Donora High School Class of 1950.

After graduation, Hilda held many different positions in her career including Licensed Practical Nurse, social worker and teacher’s aide.

Hilda loved her church and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Donora, where she served in several roles up until her death, including treasurer, usher board, and trustee.

She was also an active member of the Senior Action Committee and was dedicated to her favorite cause of voter registration and voting education. Hilda believed that everyone should exercise their freedom to cast a ballot.

Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lewis Sr.; her parents; her sister, Ethel Mae Brown Robinson; her brothers, Herman Brown and Peter Brown Jr.; and goddaughter, Michele Lea-Stokes.

Hilda spent her life continually making new friends and treasuring old friends, which kept her young at heart. Her best sister friends for life, Fannie Burroughs and Maryann Hall, held a special bond for over 60 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Lewis (Joseph Banks) of Michigan; and son, Richard Lewis Jr. (Terri Lewis) of Florida; her nieces, Kim Fields (David Fields) of Wexford, Patricia Brown, Jewel Gibson, May Rose Pickens, Gina Brown, and Carol Lucier (William Lucier); her nephews, Greg Brown (Dawn Brown), Herman Brown Jr., Golden Gibson, Peter Brown Jr., Carol Lucier. She is also survived by the loving and caring relatives of the Corley-George family; and leaves behind a large extended family with cousins, grand- and great-grand- nieces and nephews; and two loveable granddogs, Lucki Lewis and Lacey Lee Lewis.

Hilda was the matriarch of her family, a relative to many, and a friend to all.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, and from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of a service, Thursday, March 23, in First Baptist Church, 541 Allen Avenue, Donora, PA 15033. Eulogizing is Elder Jack Howell. Interment will be at the Mon Valley Memorial Park, 49 2nd Street Extension, Donora, PA 15033.
