Janet M. Reese, 86, of Washington, died peacefully Monday, May 15, 2023, in Premier Washington Health Center.

She was born August 4, 1936, in Washington, a daughter of the late James V. and Thelma A. Mancin Mazzie.

A 1954 graduate of Trinity High School, Janet enjoyed serving on the reunion committee, and her ongoing activities with her graduating class.

Mrs. Reese worked at C. Powell Chevrolet and Scott Motor Company, in Washington, as the bookkeeper. She also enjoyed working at Piece Goods Shop and Kaufmanns.

She was a lifelong member of the Christian Church of North America, where she served as the vacation Bible school director, and taught Sunday school for over 40 years. Janet led the Women’s Fellowship group for many years, raising funds through hoagie sales.

Her faith was a large part of her life, and gave her great comfort. She never missed an opportunity to share the love of God with family, friends, and those she met. In fact, she loved sharing various scriptures in the thoughtful cards that she gave. “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 was her favorite.

She sang with her sisters in the “Mazzie Trio”.

Mrs. Reese was a kind and generous woman, who was happiest when surrounded by her beloved family. Among some of the many things she enjoyed doing for others were baking, cooking and sewing. It was very important to spend Sundays preparing and enjoying a delicious meal and dessert with her family. She cherished every moment she spent with her grandchildren, and great-grandson, whom she adored.

On April 3, 1965, she married the love of her life, Raymond E. Reese, Jr., who died July 23, 2004.

Surviving are two daughters, Shelia R. (Mike) Shuba of Washington, and Susan R. (David) Gregg of Washington; two sisters, Jean (the late Jim) Harris, and Ilene (the late Donald) Iams; grandchildren, Steven (Sarah) Shuba, Aaron (fiancee Kelli Anderson) Shuba, David R. Gregg, and Alyson (Donnie) Carroll; a great-grandson, Caleb Reece Shuba; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was a sister, Mildred (the late Lew) Levinson.

Friends and family are welcome from 12 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 21, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where additional visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., the time of service, Monday, May 22, with the Rev. Rob Berk officiating.

Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
