Louis Jacob Moore, 88, of Beallsville, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

Lou was born January 27, 1935, in Marianna. He grew up in Waynesburg, and graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1953. While in school, he worked at Bailey Atlantic, Berryhill Atlantic, and McCordy Esso.

Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served from 1953-1957, having the rank of A/1C. He was awarded the Army Occupation Medal (Germany 1954-1957), the National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.

Upon returning home, Lou met and married the love of his life, Betty Ruth Watson, April 3, 1958 and started a family, where he raised a stepson, Doug, and they went on to have three more children. Lou and Betty lived a full and happy life making family memories. They celebrated 61 anniversaries together.

Lou graduated from California State Teachers College with a degree in Industrial Arts in 1960 and started his career at McGuffey High School, where he taught from 1960-1974. He was awarded a sabbatical leave from 1972-1973 when he attended West Virginia University. He received his Masters Degree in School Administration, and a Certificate of Advanced Study.

In 1974, he served on Central Eastern Education Evaluation Team to evaluate Mt. Pleasant School District, and accepted the position of assistant high school principal at Bentworth High School. He served out his educational career, retiring in August 1993 from Bentworth, having served as high school principal 1975-1981, and assistant superintendent 1981-1993.

Civic duties included serving on the Beallsville Borough Council, Civic Association, and as Judge of Elections, as well as a member of the Bentleyville Lions Club.

Lou and Betty enjoyed his retirement traveling to Germany, Switzerland and Austria, and spent 18 winters in Florida as snowbirds. They liked cruising to Mexico, Bahamas, Alaska and Hawaii. Many of their travels were with close friends, Ed and Betty Bular. Lou also enjoyed hunting at the family camp in Emporium, playing card games with family and friends, and anything family oriented was of highest priority. His family and friends relished his abilities to fix anything. Most recently Lou enjoyed the activities and friendships of those at the Bentleyville Senior Center.

Louis was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ruth Watson; son, Gregory Scott Moore; parents, Samuel and Clara Piper Moore; brothers, Robert, Samuel and Arthur Moore; and sister, Pauline Wilson; and brother and sister-in-law, John and Sarah Watson.

Lou is survived by his stepson, Douglas (Tina) Wilson of St. Clairsville, Ohio; daughters, Karen (Kit) Carson of Brownsville, Lisa (Jeff) Kuhns of Millerstown; and daughter-in-law, Terri Bartolomucci Moore of Beallsville; sisters, Frances George, Glenda (Richard) Davis, Sharon (Keith) Cowell; and sister-in-law, Barbara Moore; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Patti Watson; and many nieces and nephews.

Lou (and Betty) built quite a legacy with eight grandchildren, Jason (Mary Jo) Livingood, Cory (Kendra) Livingood, Ean (Chelsea) Livingood, Nicholas (Bri) Moore, Dominic (fiancee Madeline) Moore, Mackenzie (Zach) Swarrow, Hattie (Skyler) Wilson, and Olivia Kuhns. He was blessed with 13 great-grandchildren, Titan, Ryan, Nick, Riley, Ava, Tessa, Tristan, Isla, Oliver, Olivia, Oakley, Lennon, Kenzo, and number 14 due in September. A life well lived and a beautiful legacy!

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, Ltd., 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, with additional viewing from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of a service, Wednesday, May 24, in Grace United Methodist Church, Coal Center. Burial will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
