Robert E. Baker Jr.

Robert E. “Bob” Baker Jr., 72, of Mechanicsburg, died unexpectedly Monday, March 20, 2023. He was born January 28, 1951, in Westmorland County, to the late Robert E. Baker and Gayle Brown Baker.

He was a descendent of Charles Reichart, who crossed the Delaware River with George Washington in the American Revolution.

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Baker; a son, Robert “Mack” Baker (Sarah); a wife, Anne Chamberlain Baker; three beloved grandchildren, Blaise, Thatcher and Agatha; his siblings, Kenneth Baker, Kathleen Baker Kolb, David Baker, Scott Baker and Becky Baker Boyer.

Bob was raised in East Washington and was a graduate of Washington High School. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and then embarked on a professional career of more than 45 years in government affairs. Among his many accomplishments, he was Secretary of Labor and Industry under Governor Thornburg, Deputy Secretary of Transportation under Elizabeth Dole, Representative for No Child Left Behind under President George W. Bush, Lobbyist for British American Tobacco, Conrail, and retired as a lobbyist from Capitol Blue Cross Blue Shield.
