Henry Martin Griffith
Henry Martin Griffith, 83, of Monongahela, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023.
He was born on November 6, 1939 in Langeloth.
He went by several nicknames depending on when you met him in life such as, Marty, Tike, or Henry. No matter when it was he was always a great friend to everyone.
Henry was a loving father and family man who loved life! He is survived by his loving companion, Johanna Kokoska of Monongahela; his children, Cecilia M. Griffith of Pittsburgh; Christine E. Benner (Edward) of Rowlett, Tex., and Mark F. Griffith of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; as well as his two granddaughters, Sara Benner of Rowlett, Tex. and Rachel Benner of Nashville, Tenn.; and his grandson, Gavin Griffith of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary E. Griffith; and his oldest son, Marty Griffith. He also has two surviving sisters, Patty Johnson (Jerry) of Punta Gorda, Fla. and Carol Froats (George) of Bulger.
Henry had two great loves in his life, Mary and Johanna. He met Mary at a dance and knew she was the one for him at first glance. After her passing, he found modern love online, and met Johanna in 2012 and had butterflies all over again. He was a hopeless romantic and loved them both with his whole heart.
He enjoyed doing home remodeling and construction. Henry had an entrepreneurial spirit and always had a side business. He was also a Master Mason. In 1957, he graduated from Union High School. He later went on to work as an electrician at Washington Hospital until his retirement. During his career, he also worked at J/L Steel, Union Electric, Koppers Company, and owned Henry M. Griffith Home Improvements.
In his free time, Henry collected friends, tools, and tractors wherever he went. He had a knack for fixing anything and even invented a lot of things over the years. He had a passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers, loved to dance, play cards, and chat with friends. One of his favorite pastimes was fishing and enjoying a bonfire with his family.
Dad wished not to have a service or funeral, but rather for all of us to remember the great times we spent with him and laugh together. He loved music, especially country and rock, so put on some Johnny Cash, Hank Williams or George Thorogood and share your favorite stories and remember him.
The Marshall Marra Funeral Home, 216 Chess St. Monongahela 724-258-6767, marshallmarrafuneralhome.com was in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project because he had a special place in his heart for American Veterans. https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org
We remember Henry Martin Griffith as a loving father and a man who enjoyed life to the fullest. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
