Janice Hecht Murray
Janice Hecht Murray, 83, of Washington, died Friday, October 27, 2023 in Paramount Senior Living, McMurray.
She was born October 3, 1940 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Clyde John and Blanche Keller Hecht.
Janice was a 1958 graduate of Snowden Township High School, and went on to obtain a teaching degree from Indiana State College (now Indiana University of Pennsylvania) in 1962.
She was employed as a teacher for the Chartiers Valley School District grade schools, specializing in fifth grade education, from where she retired in 1997. After her retirement Jan worked with the Washington Literacy Council.
She was a member of Windover Hills United Methodist Church and attended services with her husband at First Baptist Church of Washington while living in Washington.
Janice loved to travel with her many teaching friends over the years. When she and Bob married he made sure that she was able to visit the remaining states that she had not been to. They shared a wonderful life together. She also loved reading, going to the beach and spending time at their summer place at the lake.
On February 2, 1990 she married Robert Todd Murray, who died just two weeks prior, on October 13, 2023.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Joanne Hecht; her nieces, Jacqueline Rizzo and Dr. Sallie Richards; her nephews, Jeffrey Hecht and Andrew Richards; great-nieces, Jessica Rizzo and Genevieve Richards; great-nephew, Benjamin Richards; great-great-nephew, Aiden Rizzo; special cousins, Glenn and Sherry McVicker; an aunt, Jean Kinnan; her step-daughter, Jennifer Leigh Murray Brown; step-granddaughter, Kaleigh Brown, and sisters-in-law, Bonnie Keirs and Peggy (Joe) Scears.
Deceased are her brother, John “Jack” Hecht; her sister, Marlene Hecht Richards; and a brother-in-law, Donald Richards.
Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, the hour of services, in the Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Steve Dunlap officiating. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil.
