Sara M. Burns Sprowls
Sara M. Burns Sprowls, 94, of Washington, died on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 2:10 a.m. in Strabane Woods, Assisted Living.
She was born June 6, 1929 in East Finley Twp., Washington County, Pa. a daughter of the late Harry Lee and Evelyn Irene Sanders Burns.
Mrs. Sprowls was a member of the former Enon Baptist Church and was a current member of the Abundant Life Baptist Church in Washington.
She was a graduate and valedictorian of the class of 1947 from the former Richhill Twp. High School in Wind Ridge.
Mrs. Sprowls was a former resident of E. Brady, Brownsville, Bellwood, in Pa.and New Matamoras, Ohio, prior to returning to Pa. where she resided in Prosperity, Pa. from 1994 until 2013.
On July 23, 1949 she married Rev. Louis Allum Sprowls who died April 3, 2005.
Mrs. Sprowls assisted her late minister husband in all aspects of his church activities, and enjoyed quilting, baking and reading.
Surviving are two daughters, Esther Ashbaugh, of Phoenixville and Ruth A. Johnson of Pittsburgh; two sons, David Sprowls of Millheim, Ohio and Mark (Barbara) Sprowls of Hudson, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Matthew and Adam Ashbaugh and Rachel (Nate) Ashbaugh Imhoff, Joshua Sprowls and Megan (Jonathan) Sprowls VanNoy, Jacob and Benjamin (Anne) Johnson; seven great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Louise Sprowls Hickman, of Washington.
Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are two sisters, Opal Louise Rush and Virginia R. Six; three brothers, J. Walter, Lloyd E. and Robert A. Burns and brother in infancy.
Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 in the Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC in Rogersville, Pa., with Pastor Jeffrey Diedrich officiating. Interment will follow in Enon Cemetery, Richhill Twp.
