Hope Meloy Yenko, previously of Washington, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2023, in North Hollywood, California.

Hope was well-known to many children who attended her story hours at the Citizens Library, in Washington in the 1980s and 90s. She retired as head of the Children’s Department in 1995 after 30 years of service, and moved to Los Angeles to be near her daughter, Terri and her family.

Hope was born in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Penn State University and was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority where she met, dated, and married Don Yenko.

Upon graduation, Don became a Chevy dealership partner with his parents, Frank and Martha Yenko in Bentleyville and Canonsburg.

Early in their marriage, Don took an interest in racecar driving and Hope attended his races and kept track of her husband’s lap speed as his timekeeper.

Don and Hope had two daughters, Lynn and Terri, but the couple separated in 1974. Shortly after that, Hope began working at Citizens Library and obtained a degree in Library Science from Sewickley College.

She was a sweet, wonderful woman and she will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Terri Yenko Gould and Lynn Yenko Zoiopoulos; and grandchildren: Gary, Alex, Milo and Amanda.

She is predeceased by her brothers, William Meloy and Don Meloy; and her ex-husband, Don Yenko.

She will be buried privately in Beallsville Cemetery.

Memorial donations should be made to Citizens Library, 55 S. College Street, Washington, PA 15301.
