Melvin E. Strope, 87, of Waynesburg, passed away, Friday, October 6, 2023, in his home with his family by his side.

Born August 11, 1936, in Aleppo, a son of the late Charles and Lenora Warrick Strope.

Melvin was a Greene County resident his whole life. He was a member of the Windy Gap Independent Church, Aleppo. Melvin was employed with CONSOL where he laid track for over 40 years.

He married Donnis L. Carter Strope on August 8, 1958, and they were happily married for 62 years until her passing on April 27, 2021.

Melvin served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was the president of the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Aleppo. Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by three children, Mary (Stephen Jobes) Strope, of Cameron, W.Va., Ruth (Billy) Williams, of Sevierville, Tenn., and Rodney Strope, of Waynesburg; six grandchildren, Jonathan (Devon) Ross, of Ryerson, Garth (April) King, of West Finley, Kendra (Andy) Lethco, of Sevierville, Tenn., Tabitha (William) Smith, of Kodak, Tenn., Sierra (Adam Crawford) Campbell, of Jollytown, and Tyson Williams, of Sevierville; 10 great- grandchildren, Maralyn and Bryce King, both of Knoxville, Haylin Smith, of Kodak, Tenn., Elaina Campbell, of Jollytown, Saphira Ross, of Ryerson, Maddie Smith, of Kodak, Keelan Ross, of Ryerson, Lily Crawford, of Jollytown, Lincoln Lethco, of Sevierville, Tenn., and Remington Ross, of Ryerson; two siblings, Carol Strope, of Washington State and Nettie Strope-Antill, of Warren, Ohio.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by, five brothers, Chester Strope, Harold Strope, Kenny Strope, Jay Strope, and Donnie Strope; two half siblings, Ima Jean Hunt and Wilbur Strope.

Friends and family will be received from 11 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, at Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home, LLC. 3275 W. Roy Furman Hwy. Rogersville, PA 15359. Telephone: 724-499-5181., where the funeral will be held directly after at 3 p.m., with Pastor Tim Sinko, officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Greene County Honor Guard. At the request of the family, burial is private.
