Joseph L. “Joe” Dunn, 85, took his last breath on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at his daughter’s home in Washington, and he woke up in the presence of Jesus and his family that had gone on before him.

Joe was born April 11, 1938, in Washington, the son of the late James. L. “Bud” and Lucille Babbitt Dunn.

He was a 1956 graduate of Trinity High School and attended Waynesburg College.

Mr. Dunn served in the United States Navy, from 1957 to 1959.

In 1960 he married Bettylee Jestat (deceased), and they had one son, Joseph L. “Joey” Dunn (deceased).

Surviving is their only daughter, Dayna Dunn (Von) Sage.

He had one brother, Thomas B. (Carol Jean) Dunn of West Virginia that predeceased him and he is survived by a sister, Ann (Cliff) Bridges of Greensboro, N.C.; eight grandchildren: Destiny (Kevin) Grady Arissa, Brennan, Joey and Seth Dunn, James and Joel Fowler and Holly (John) Rotalsky; three great-grandchildren, and two nieces and two nephews.

Mr. Dunn owned and operated conventional natural gas wells in the Washington area, and he was the third generation of his family in the oil and gas business. He worked in various capacities in his youth learning the oil and Gas business, at Oil Well Supply Company and was also involved in Union Drilling Inc., with his Dad and brother. He was formally employed at McGraw Edison as well as The Meadows Racetrack and later in his life, he owned and raced trotting horses. He sold Real Estate throughout his life and in the mid-1980’s, he owned and operated The Rendezvous Pit and Pub in Washington.

He was a member of the Washington Elks Lodge 776, where he enjoyed playing in their Dart Ball League in his middle age when the league was active. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 22 and the Arms Club.

For several years he played on a golf team, although golf was not his forte, he enjoyed spending time with friends, (and the beer). Joe was also a member of the Western Pennsylvania Blues Society and the Suncoast Blues society.

Joe was known for his generous nature and he was dearly loved by his family and friends. He especially enjoyed life at the beach, watching the waves, and even riding them when he young. He loved baseball since he was a kid, watching the Pittsburgh Pirates with his Dad and he finished the 2023 season with his daughter by his side, leaving her the best memory, (even if they didn’t make the playoffs.)

Joe had a passion for Blues music and listening to live blues bands, in both Pennsylvania and Florida, where he could always be counted on to request his favorite Ray Charles or Muddy Waters songs. Joe will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in his honor for his family, at the home of his daughter.
