Rev. Garry D. Cobert
Rev. Garry D. Cobert, 85, of Rices Landing, passed away peacefully, in his home, and went home to be with Jesus Friday, October 13, 2023.
He was born April 2, 1938, in Fairchance, a son of the late William Cobert and Gwendolyn Travis Cobert.
Garry was a graduate of Mapletown High School. After high school, Garry joined the military and served in the Air Force as an aircraft mechanic for 21 years. His military time included time spent in the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, Garry continued to work as a mechanic. He was the owner of New Life Auto for a few years.
But Gary loved the Lord and answered the call to become a pastor. He was the pastor at Carmichaels Baptist Church until he passed away.
Garry loved playing golf. He also participated in church league softball, dartball and bowling. Garry had a gift for repairing things, and he loved surprising people by repairing things that seemed unrepairable and giving big bear hugs to everyone.
On May 15, 1960, he married Patricia Lawrence, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Garry Cobert Jr. (Suzanne) of Dallas, Texas, Robert Cobert (Kathy) of Sherman, Texas, and Tony Meza (Tammy) of Rices Landing; two daughters, Tracy (Jeff) Weaver of Rices Landing, and Susan (Bryan) Walker of Clarksville; four sisters, Gwendolyn (Gary) Korb of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Cheryl (Tom) Gearing of Medina, Ohio, Perrie (Charles) Metcalf of Gilbertville, and Rebecca Cobert Beran of Parma, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Stella Jean (Paul) Roush of Bay Minette, Ala.; 10 grandchildren, Olivia Cobert Brown, Ramona Partridge, Jeffrey Weaver Jr., Jeremy Weaver, Rachel Weaver, Ryan Edwards, Brendan Edwards, Kyle Meza, Siara Johnson and Shelby Stilwell; 19 great- grandchildren, Alexis Hooper, Jeremiah Rodriguez, Isabella Rodriguez, Savannah Rodriguez, Ezra Rodriguez, Chelsea Weaver, Bryleigh Weaver, Andrew Weaver, Landon Edwards, Laney Edwards, Kinzley Edwards, Hadley Edwards, Milo Cobert Brown, Hunter Johnson, Reed Johnson, Lillian Johnson, Aiden Stilwell and Ava Stilwell.
Deceased are a daughter, Tammy Cobert; three brothers, William Cobert Jr., Lawrence Cobert and Dana Cobert; a sister, Barbara Cobert Otto; a grandson, Nathan Edwards; and a granddaughter, Allison Edwards.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, in the Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 19, with the Rev. Juddy Hurst officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg, where Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Air Force and the Greene County Honor Guard.
