James W. Brown
James W. Brown, 76, of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in McMurray Hills Manor, McMurray.
He was born May 23, 1947, in Brownsville, a son of the late Matthew and Mildred Sweany Brown.
Mr. Brown was a 1966 graduate of California Area High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education from California University of Pennsylvania.
Jim had been employed for many years in the lending department of Gallatin Bank in Uniontown and then was employed with the PA Liquor Control Board in Harrisburg for 15 years before his retirement.
He was a member of the Centerville United Methodist Church for over 50 years, a member of Free & Accepted Masons Sunset Lodge #237 Washington, Lodge of Perfection Uniontown, and the Consistory of the Valley of Pittsburgh, Sons of the American Legion 705 Centerville, and the California Gun Club.
Mr. Brown was a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed NFL, NASCAR and traveling.
On December 5, 1970, he married Nancy Stimmel Brown, who survives. They celebrated 52 years of marriage.
Surviving are two sons, Jeff Brown (Hilary), and Scott Brown (Shannon), both of Monongahela; two grandchildren, Mason and Sydney Brown; three sisters, Linda Carbonneau of Enid, Okla., Barbara Brown of Ridgeway, and Beverly Dipiazzo of Marianna; along with several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are private and have been entrusted to the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, Ltd., 2830 Main Street, Beallsville. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Centerville United Methodist Church, 823 Old National Pike, Brownsville, PA 15417.
