Valerie Jean Mendrola
Valerie Jean Mendrola, 60, of Washington, passed away peacefully Monday, October 23, 2023, in Washington Hospital, due to complications of lung disease.
She was born June 11, 1963, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Gerald P. “Jerry” Gona and the late Bonnie Lewis Gona, and beloved stepdaughter of Mary Ann McKenna Gona.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, John and Stephanie M. Mendrola of Washington. She was the beloved sister of Gloria (Frank) Mihellis, Michael Gona (Heather) and Erin (T.J.) Rebish; aunt of Dylan Pruni, Ryan and Troy Rebish; niece of Margaret Ann and Daniel Talany; cousin of Bryan (Theresa) and Jenny Talany; and treasured friend of Marie Hilbert Keblish, Donna Hunger and Stacey Orr Popp.
Valerie was preceded in death by her beloved Mom, Bonnie Gona; her grandparents, Walt and Esthel Lewis, Sam and Millie DiPippa, and stepgrandparents, Raymond and Mae McKenna.
Valerie was a graduate of Keystone Oaks High School, Class of 1981. She was a great animal lover, and they all loved her, especially her dogs, Tanner and Marley.
She enjoyed going to the Washington County Fair. Val loved to vacation with her family, especially to Mexico, and cruise and have fun with her wonderful Dad.
Val enjoyed music – one of her favorites was Bob Seger, while having a “black Russian”!
She will be missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 29, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301, where a blessing service will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, October 30, Rev. the Michael Peck officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Adalbert Cemetery.
