C. Jerome Moschetta
C. Jerome “Jerry” Moschetta, 80, died peacefully, in his home in Washington, in the morning hours of Saturday, October 28, 2023, surrounded by family. Jerry will surely be remembered by all who were blessed to know him as a kind, gentle and warm-hearted man who cared deeply for his family, the practice of law, and his Catholic faith.
Jerry’s life revolved around his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Elizabeth, who provided never-ending care, support and devotion to Jerry, particularly during his recent medical treatment. Also surviving are his three children, Jerome A. Moschetta (Mary), Christina M. Pollock (Aaron), and Daniel J. Moschetta; and his three beloved grandchildren, William (11) and Caroline (9) Moschetta, and Alexander Pollock (8). Jerry’s pride and affection for his grandchildren were apparent to all. He travelled far-and-wide to cheer them on in athletics and regularly boasted of their many accomplishments and positive attributes to friends, family and colleagues.
Also surviving are two brothers, Joseph P. Moschetta (Judith), and James A. Moschetta (Kathy); two sisters, Janet Moschetta Bell (John), Jean M. Winfree (Ben); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Elizabeth Paoly Moschetta, formerly of Fredericktown; and his brother, John J. Moschetta, Jr. (Barbara), also formerly of Fredericktown.
A graduate of Bethlehem-Center Senior High School, West Virginia University, and the University of Baltimore School of Law, Jerry began the practice of law in Cumberland, Md. in 1969. Two years later, he was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar. As a general practitioner of law in Washington County, Jerry represented thousands of injured workers – many of whom were local coal miners suffering from black lung disease – in their workers’ compensation cases. He dutifully represented clients in social security disability actions, personal injury and estate matters. More recently, he represented area landowners in oil and gas matters. A skilled advocate for injured workers all over Western Pennsylvania for decades, Jerry was an approachable, empathetic and deeply devoted counselor to each of his many clients, their families, and their cases.
As an active parishioner of St. James Parish, Jerry served the parish family at Immaculate Conception Church for many years as an usher. He had a deep and abiding belief in the teachings of the Catholic faith, which he practiced daily.
