DEP, Cecil officials doing their jobs

1 min read

I am concerned about the tone of the Thursday editorial, “Public be damned in Cecil Township,” regarding a water impoundment.

In Cecil Township, we have elected officials whose job it is to represent the people. The officials have identified a potential problem through their own diligence and through the reporting of residents. The people are doing their job by reporting alleged problems to the township. The township is doing its job by addressing the concerns to the Department of Environmental Protection. The DEP is doing its job by arranging a meeting with the township’s elected officials and appointed representatives. The township officials will do their job again by reporting back to those who elected them. Every person in the township with an opinion or some facts to contribute should put them in writing to their elected officials so that the officials can properly represent us.

Why lambaste the DEP and Cecil Township officials for facilitating a process whereby everyone does their jobs?

The tone of a meeting can be much more open and conducive to generating results if there is no audience.
