Let’s have a barking dog contest
A group of local residents based in the East Washington Borough and Washington’s Fifth Ward area have recently joined forces to establish what they are calling an annual barking dog contest. The organization is so new it is yet unclear exactly who will ultimately emerge as its leader. Even at this early stage, however, there appear to be some trends taking shape. It now seems clear that there will be annual first, second and third prizes awarded in each of two categories: the loudest barking dog category and an as-yet-unnamed category for the dog whose barking continues longest; there also appears to be considerable agitation within the group for a dog-who-starts-barking-earliest-in-the-morning category, but plans here are far from complete. The group stresses its non-sectarian nature: beagles, Jack Russells, Dandie Dinmonts, Cavalier King Charles Coton de Tulears – all are eligible to compete.
Keep watching these pages for a list of all contest winners, purportedly to be determined late in August. Also, a member of the organization who would speak only under guarantee of anonymity hinted at the formation of a “washingtoneastwashingtonbarkingdogcontest.fedup” web page.
