Board should explore cost reduction

1 min read

In a letter from Frances Eates published in the Observer-Reporter Sunday, she questioned the sanity and accountability of the leadership of Trinity Area Schools. I do not want to question all the issues presented by Eates, only those related to transportation and insurance.

Given the fact that approximately one-fifth of the annual budget is expended on transportation and insurance, I would think that taxpayers would expect the school board to explore ways to reduce these costs. Any savings in these two areas could be spent on programs that directly influence student achievement.

In my opinion, if the board failed to look at possible reductions, the taxpayers in the district should consider surcharging them for neglecting their fiduciary responsibility.
