Let lottery privatization die

1 min read

I stand at a complete loss to understand Gov. Tom Corbett’s logic, if there is any, in attempting to contract a foreign company to manage the Pennsylvania Lottery.

It would be bad enough for Pennsylvania to employ an out-of-state management firm to do its own work, but why the British? Does the governor believe we’re too inept to manage our own affairs? Let’s understand this: If a foreign company does manage the lottery, they will indeed take a tidy share of the proceeds out of Pennsylvania, and out of the United States, for their fees. And $3 million has already been spent just talking about the transition.

We’ve heard it before: “A million here, a million there. Before you know it, it adds up to a lot of wasted money!”

I sincerely hope (and expect) that this ill-advised notion will die soon, and any problems perceived in the present management of the lottery will corrected “in-house” by Pennsylvanians.
