Don’t encourage drop outs to stay in school

1 min read

Regarding your Tuesday editorial on the high school drop-out rate, it appears you believe those who drop out would be better served remaining in school. Please look again. Those who drop out have been lagging since grade school due to either severe learning disabilities or mental illness. For those students, remaining in school would not prepare them for future employment. Forcing them, or even encouraging them, to stay just further weakens the high school diploma which today is nearly worthless due to severe grade inflation.
