Residents want an end to violence

2 min read

I would like to commend Washington’s mayor Brenda Davis, the city’s police department and all other law enforcement agencies for the difficult hours of work which they have put forth in the investigation of the March 31 shooting death of Ta’Naiyah Thomas.

The swift work of the police department restored calm to the residents of the city and may have even prevented further acts of violence.

The citizens of Washington spoke loudly with one voice and they were heard. While the parents and family of this young, innocent child were preparing to bury their daughter, people from all walks of life came together in support of the family and to speak out against the taking of such a promising young life. Unfortunately, tragic deaths due to illegal drugs and violence within Washington’s neighborhoods are not unheard of and most families are affected one way or another, including mine. Nevertheless, the senseless murder of a child is most difficult for a family and a community to accept.

We as a community must work even harder to put an end to the killings and put the perpetrators of these crimes on notice – enough is enough, and law-abiding citizens are no longer going to tolerate it.
