It was with amazement that I read about our history during the 1920s. Bill Bryson’s new book, “One Summer America, 1927” is a fascinating look at who we were as a people and what was important to us.

I had not learned any of this in high school or college, nor did I come across the multitude of information in any history or social studies textbook. Reading the book three times now has given me great insight into how we respond to the pressing problems and questions of today. I would encourage anyone with an interest in “learning from history so we do not repeat the past” to read this book. We face the same issues today and are responding to some of them in the same way. The reader can draw their own conclusions.
