Other solutions than furloughs
My thoughts were sad as I read the Tuesday Observer-Reporter about the furloughing of six teachers in the Chartiers-Houston School District.
Don’t people realize that in our profit-motivated society, the cost of fuel, books, food, health care and more increase for a school district, hence the inevitability of school tax increases.
My question is, have there been any cuts to any Chartiers-Houston sports programs? What is the exact cost of the football program? Where do the students of the laid-off teachers go? Are they put into overcrowded classrooms? As a former librarian and school board member, I think other solutions could be found instead of furloughing six teachers. This has been done in other school districts.
