Too distant to bother?
State Rep. Jim Christiana, who represents the recently restructured 15th Legislative District, has invited his constituents by mail to a town hall meeting April 3. The meeting will be in Monaca, in Beaver County.
That location exemplifies how ridiculously gerrymandered his district is. It stretches from deep in Beaver County south to the Greene County line. Some of those represented by Christiana, like those in West Finley Township, will have to drive as much as 75 miles to attend the meeting, a good bit of it on twisting country roads that might stretch the length of the journey to two hours.
The lawmaker hopes to have “a straightforward conversation about what’s happening in our community.” Too bad that much of that community is excluded by distance.
