Consolidate school districts
The Sept. 29 Observer-Reporter editorial highlighted remarkable achievements by graduates from the Greene County Career and Technology Center. Students from all five county school districts are enrolled at the center.
Amazing progress has been made in that particular curriculum since I went to school here more than 50 years ago. Troubling to me is the fact that other Greene County schools have not matched that level of progress in their curriculums. This has historically been evidenced by our chronically distressed economy through either good or bad times. The most favored phrase in the county is, “Where’s the money gonna come from?”
Each Greene taxpayer would certainly realize a bigger bang for the buck if all five local school districts were consolidated into a single, cohesive school district near Waynesburg, as the Greene County Career and Technology Center is. Imagine all the tax money that would be saved by reducing the schools’ administrative force by four-fifths and redirecting the savings to preparing our students for leadership roles here at home and in the world.
