Why no smart lights?
Can someone explain to me why, in the 21st Century and after millions of dollars of construction, we still have timed traffic lights at the intersection of College and East Chestnut streets instead of “smart” lights on sensors?
It is absurd for traffic on Chestnut – which is far more heavily travelled than College – to have to sit there for 90 seconds or more at a red light when not a single car comes down College Street. If nothing else, make it a flashing red light so drivers will stop, see no one’s coming, then continue uninterrupted.
The road was recently rebuilt, and it sure looks like there are sensors in the road bed. Didn’t they attach them to anything? All the time and gas wasted just sitting there is ridiculous.
