Put the money in the streets

1 min read

When the Observer-Reporter published a story Oct. 9 that the city of Washington had a surplus of $1.45 million in 2013 due to underestimating revenue by $1.7 million, red flags should have gone up.

How can a city the size of Washington make an estimate that is so far off? Did not one elected official happen to notice that $1.45 million was floating out there? Where did the money go? Does the city still have it?

City residents deserve an honest answer. A full and disclosed audit should be done now. If we do have a surplus, it should be used for our streets.
