Slow down in Wind Ridge

2 min read

The once fairly quiet village of Wind Ridge as been under siege. It has been inundated with dump trucks, various types of pickup trucks and semis. To make one familiar with our village, it is located on Route 21 with one main road. There are many such villages in Greene County, and we boast of our peaceful neighborhoods. We house the elderly, the young families, the middle-aged and the inbetweeners. The speed limit is 35 mph.

What’s the point, you may ask? This parade of trucks pass by our homes at speeds in excess of the posted limit, and it scares the bejeebers out of me. There are kids on bicycles, people getting their mail or walking on the sidewalks, and the trucks create wind tunnels that would straighten your hair. My husband was getting into his car Monday and flailed his arms to slow one such truck down. The driver came to a screeching halt, leaving a black mark on the road about 12 feet long. After bringing his truck to a stop, which was 200 feet west on 21, he yelled, “I was going 25!”

My plea is that those who are driving and the companies that own these trucks take time to think about the children on bicycles, the people walking or getting their mail. Does someone, such as a child, have to be a hood ornament to make a point? I pray not.
