Beaned at the ballpark

1 min read

A few facts about the national pastime: Baseballs are hard. When thrown or struck with a bat, baseballs can travel upward of 100 mph. It you get hit in the head with one of those balls, it hurts like the dickens.

A woman learned these facts in short order the other night at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. In trying to get to her seat, she was standing behind the netting that is there to protect people sitting behind home plate when a ball was fouled back and cracked her in the noggin. As would be expected, she was knocked silly and was in the hospital overnight.

Let this be a lesson. Far too many people go to baseball games and then seem to have very little interest in what’s happening on the field. They chit-chat with the person next to them or have their noses in their smartphones. If you’re one of those people, we suggest that you sit as far away from the field as possible, or maybe just go to the movies instead. These days, people talk and look at their phones there all the time.
