Let’s remember Lincoln

1 min read

On Feb. 12, 1809, one of the most highly respected and beloved Americans was born into poverty in Kentucky. Although Abraham Lincoln’s life was hard and contained many hardships and disappointments, he persevered.

Today, Congress and the White House oppose each other over the expansion of government programs, but the federal government grew larger under President Lincoln than any other president, except during the administration of President Franklin Roosevelt during World War II.

It seems altogether fitting and proper that we should take a moment on Lincoln’s birthday to ponder his failures and successes. The county has not seen his likes in generations, but the country desperately needs someone like him.
