The poorest sportsmanship seen on display
I had the displeasure of being at the boys varsity basketball game between Trinity and McGuffey high schools Tuesday and was appalled by the lack of sportsmanship projected by Trinity’s student spectators, parents, the referees that the school district hired for that particular game, the athletic director and administrators.
There is a young man on the McGuffey team who is in the vo-ag program. The student spectator section booed this boy anytime he got near them or the ball. At first, it seemed to be good-natured ribbing, but as the night wore on, it started to sound very malicious. I was extremely appalled the referees, parents, administrators or athletic director did not address it and ask them to stop.
I am just curious how the parents, coaches, administrators or referees would have felt if that had been your team or child who was being verbally accosted by those young “adults,” who should know better. It was a sad display of the future for those children and the community’s view of them and the school district.
This is coming from a mother who was in sports and whose children have been in sports for many years. I have never let them act like that, and I would definitely put a stop to it if they or their friends did. I was not raised to show that type of poor sportsmanship and would not allow my children and their friends to display it either.
All of the so-called adults in Trinity school district should be extremely ashamed of themselves.
