Canonsburg is truly a special place
After another long work week, then spending a couple of days in Green Tree, it was time to return home on a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning. I am always happy to come home, but this morning felt a little extra special for some reason.
As I proceeded onto Pike Street in Canonsburg, I was greeted by American flags that lined the whole street. This is not the first time Canonsburg has done this. For the last several years, as Memorial Day approaches, our little town lines its main road with these flags. But coming home that morning, the flags made it feel like I was getting a much-needed “welcome home” hug.
Oh, I sighed. This is nice. The feeling took me back to when I was a girl growing up in Canonsburg.
Continuing on Pike Street and entering the main part of town, I noticed adults and children wearing bright vests. I assume they were picking up litter.
In the middle of town, there was a man washing the sidewalks. This is really nice, I thought – flags, kids, people cleaning up. The warm, welcome-home feeling kept welling up.
As I was getting closer to my home, I thought to myself, “What a very special place Canonsburg is.” What a special town we have here. How just driving down the main street can evoke a feeling of hominess.
Thanks should go to all the hard-working people who keep our town running and helping to provide that very proud feeling.
