Buckling up saves lives
Safety on our roads is not just the responsibility of the people who build, maintain and patrol them, but of the people who use them. Driving courteously and at safe speeds is imperative, and so is the simple act of always wearing a seat belt.
Another incident Monday night claimed the life of a 21-year-old junior at California University of Pennsylvania. Mason Reiff, 21, of Lancaster County, was pronounced dead at a Pittsburgh hospital after a crash on Route 88 near California. Three others were injured, and all four of them were ejected from the car in which they were riding after it struck a hillside and a guardrail.
Ejection from a vehicle is almost always an indication seat belts were not fastened at the time of a crash.
We can avoid horrible consequences by doing the simplest of things. Buckle up.
