Refugees need to be vetted
After reading a number of letters to the editor in support of allowing Syrian refugees into our country, I wonder what some of those who write are thinking.
Listening to many news programs, I have not heard those who oppose the acceptance of the refugees say that they are all bad. We do need some serious vetting to assure there are not terrorists among them. Have you not heard the old saying, “One bad apple spoils the bunch”? If you had 1,000 apples and suspected one of those apples had been poisoned, would you keep them all, or just throw out all of them?
While it is the Christian way to love and accept the refugees, as individuals this is what we must do. However, the federal government has a responsbility to protect all Americans. What assurance do we have that there is not at least one “bad apple” in the bunch? Our government wants to allow numerous refugees into this country and spend millions of dollars providing for them. Why don’t they spend the money providing for our homeless veterans?
