Ben Carson is right
I would like to comment on your Sept. 22 editorial regarding Ben Carson’s statement that he would not support a Muslim becoming president. His statements are correct. A devout Muslim would need to follow the Koran, which requires the observance of sharia law. In view of that, he or she could not take the oath of office to “support, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States,” since our Constitution is diametrically opposed to sharia law.
You state that religious beliefs and practices that were mocked and vilified in another age are now widely accepted and embraced. The religions you refer to all believe in the same God. The Muslim religion does not. What really amazed me was the next to last paragraph where you state that “the same will happen with Islam once the fevers of our time have subsided.” You make it sound as though our concerns about Islam are irrational. The Koran does preach death to the “infidels,” which means Jews and Christians.
