The silence of the bells

As you look around Greene County or the country, you see church after church closing down or very few people attending services. Why is this? Are we so busy we can’t give an hour a week to God or are we just lazy?

We have all kind of excuses, like the kids have a soccer game, a football game or a baseball game. My favorite is that God is everywhere, so why do I have to go to church? I used that one, but it does not work that way.

Think of it this way – what if Jesus Christ went to a chariot race or to watch gladiators fight instead of saving us by being tortured and crucified? What would this world be like?

In Greensboro, we had four churches. Now we have two, and one of these is close to closing. Without people attending church we can’t stay open.

Remember, God never turns away from us no matter what, so it’s time for us not to turn away from him.
