Why are forecasts so inaccurate?

There is a frequent topic of discussion among people whose lives and livelihoods are affected by the weather and that is the lousy job that forecasters do in their predictions.

Farmers, construction workers and other people who count on weather forecasts could give numerous examples of the pitiful job weather prognosticators do. Just recently, even as a forecaster on the radio was saying there was a “very slight” chance of a rain shower, it was coming down in buckets.

How is it in this modern age of science and with the wonders of computer technology that weather forecasting has not improved. It seems at times to be getting worse. Why can’t a computer be set up to create models and give a relatively accurate prediction?

With an accurate computer prediction, the “weatherman” would become irrelevant. They wouldn’t be able to carry on their silly prattle with the “team” of news people on TV like they do before and after the forecast.
