Time for a Route 21 bypass
The Observer-Reporter’s Aug. 10 Greene County edition presented yet another report, “An 18-wheel problem,” relating to traffic congestion in the county seat caused by Waynesburg’s horse-and-buggy era street grid.
The report implies that Waynesburg’s borough council recognizes serious public safety hazards, but seems baffled as to how the problems can be resolved.
Well, gee whiz! That is hard to understand. The problems have been glaringly obvious for many years, perhaps as long as a century. Before retiring several years ago, state Sen. Barry Stout pushed a plan to construct a Route 21 bypass of Waynesburg and Morrisville. Shamefully, the local oligarchy somehow succeeded in blocking the project. That brand of governance is associated with Third World countries.
It should be apparent to enlightened and progressively-minded people that the time for a Route 21 bypass of Waynesburg and Morrisville is long overdue. Also overdue is the time to knock off the snow jobs and bellyaching.
