Keep firearms away from convicted abusers

Now is the time for everyone to face reality. Pennsylvania law does not require anyone convicted of domestic violence crimes to relinquish their firearms. I hope this is a wake-up call for all Pennsylvania lawmakers.

With the tragic death of Canonsburg police officer Scott Bashioum, it’s time for everyone to truly support public safety for all first responders, including emergency medical technicians, firefighters and paramedics. They have to respond to these dangerous domestic violence calls, not knowing what is lurking behind closed doors or outside hiding in the bushes.

Now is the time for everyone to support a bill in the state Senate that would force those convicted of domestic abuse crimes to turn in their guns. It would also prevent them from possessing them.

Our legislators must approve laws that protect domestic violence victims by keeping firearms out of the hands of convicted offenders.
