A decent journey to omega
In the circle of life, the proposed sale of the Washington Health Center because of financial loss is an indication of Washington County’s misguided understanding of alpha and omega.
It is speculative if profit-driven privatization could or would match the needs now available at the center. Do the jail, row offices, redevelopment and court systems make a profit? What is the cost of private and public education and allowing tax-free exemptions for industrial buildings? What would be the uproar if we demanded that police and fire departments and charitable groups be required to show a profit?
Who speaks for the silent minority in the dementia centers and long-term wards, the same people who, in their lifetimes, paid for the dementia centers and long-term wards?
There is a need in Washington County for a health center that can provide a decent journey to omega.
