Wolf is committed to Pennsylvania

The budget that Gov. Tom Wolf was handed this past December had no connection with Pennsylvania’s reality.
This “budget” was not what was agreed to by all parties in the compromise budget. The compromise budget made historic investments in education, in order to restore the cuts that had occurred under the prior administration. This compromise would have provided the funds to put Pennsylvania’s education system back on track.
For the first time in years, Pennsylvania had an opportunity to fund our schools and fix the structural deficit.
But Republican lawmakers reneged on the compromise budget agreement and left town for holiday vacation.
These commitments to education were lost in the budget that was sent to the governor’s desk. Wolf had no choice but to exercise his constitutional right to line-item veto that piecemeal budget. With this line-item veto, the governor released emergency funding for schools, counties, and human services organizations.
However, the Legislature still has not accomplished what Pennsylvania hired them to: pass a responsible budget that does its due diligence to our state’s children, seniors, and hardworking families. And as of the third week in January, the Republican leadership has yet to return to finish the job.
Gov. Tom Wolf remains committed to Pennsylvania – the Republican leaders in the Legislature can’t say the same.
