GOP establishment betraying the electorate

“All hands on deck!”

This is the rallying cry from the Republican establishment to get its troops aligned to end Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy. The latest recruit is 2012 GOP standard-bearer Mitt Romney.

It did not take “30 pieces of silver” for Romney to betray the electorate and launch an attack on Trump – the same Trump Romney praised four years ago for his business success, the same Trump whose check Romney cashed when running his own campaign.

All it took was a call from the Republican leadership.

What Romney is doing has been tried for many months. The GOP establishment refuses to accept the will of the electorate. The GOP has intimated the people do not matter, and the party knows best.

We could be seeing a replay of the tumultuous 1968 Democratic convention, which helped revive the political career of Richard Nixon, who expanded the government.

If this is the thinking, then the entire Republican primary process is as legitimate as the Democrats’ process, with one distinction – its coronation is not limited to one candidate, only to candidates who pass the Republican litmus test.
